The True, Blue story of The View's Red Shoe.

After months of tinkering back and forth with a graphic artist, The View Winery and Vineyard was poised to print up a wine label featuring a faded sketch of our lovely view. The inviting image was to be surrounded by bold black and gilded framing. It was a label that would not look out of place beside any established wine label. For a new winery, fitting-in seemed important. Then came that evening, a wine expert describing the pitfalls of choosing the wrong label for a wine. My husband Kent and I looked at each other. We realized we had just dug ourself a pit, and were about to fall in. We knew we needed something truly our own.

We went dancing. We danced until my red pumps started to pinch. We went home and finished off a bottle of Merlot. Kent playfully removed my shoes and stuffed the heel of one shoe into the empty bottle...

I said “I like that. No THAT! I'm talking about the shoe!”

There it was, an overturned glass beside it, an image of our own making. It spoke to us of our love of wine, and it was born by accident during a fun and carefree moment.

We stopped, grabbed the camera and snapped a picture. We took it to Kelowna artist Julia Tropps, and asked her if she could re-create it on canvas. It was done in a flash.

Within weeks it was on our wine bottles for The View's first release of table wines. The shoe fits and we're wearing it!
